Keytom - design of a fintech product from scratch

In 2023, I joined Keytom, a Dubai-based neobank, as Lead Product Designer when the product existed only as a bold idea. The team was small, but the ambitions were big: to create a modern financial platform that seamlessly combines crypto and fiat services into a single, truly friendly ecosystem.

There were no ready-made flows, previous design documents or guides - only the energy of the start. My job is to design the entire user experience from scratch. I made early concepts, prototyped mobile interfaces, went through dozens of iterations with customers and stakeholders. We moved quickly, often relying on professional instincts, while simultaneously shaping the product itself and its visual identity.

In addition to the mobile application, I also designed the desktop interface: dashboards, onboarding, transaction logic - constantly maintaining a balance between clarity, compliance requirements and brand trust in an area that many seem abstract and “complex”.

Design from the Ground Up: When Screens Become Strategy

This job was more than just “making a design”—it was a creative dive into the unknown. We didn't modify what existed - we invented. Without established patterns and clear benchmarks. There were ideas, professional instincts and a wide field of possibilities.

It was chaotic in places, very fast and with a degree of uncertainty - and this is what made the process valuable. We didn’t just draw interfaces: we asked how people would interact with money, how they would trust a new financial brand, and how they would experience digital finance in a new way.

This happens infrequently - when design ceases to be a tool to “solve problems” and becomes a way to define what a product is. This is where the magic begins.
